Most dishes are Malays, Chinese or Indonesian. All food sold or consumed in Brunei is Halal.

Specialties include fish, shrimp, crab and chicken but the noodle soups in all their forms. The dishes are often very spice. one of the specialties is called satay, skewers with various meat, dipped in a pistachio sauce.

Brunei, Malaysia as elsewhere, we eat sago, a sticky substance that is derived from sago palm. It serves as a starch (ambuyat) to accompany the meal as well as rice or noodles. Mixed with water, sago flour (starchy) is used to make pancakes fried. Boiled, it is a soup épaisse.Les fiddleheads (sort of wild ferns) are crisp vegetables that often accompany meat and fish dishes .
